Start with your objective and time horizon
A portfolio should reflect a purpose: learning, long-term exposure, active trading or a mix of these. Define your time horizon and the amount you can allocate without affecting essential expenses. This makes it easier to decide whether a price move requires action or simply falls within expected volatility.
Track concentration and review regularly
Avoid letting one asset or one trade dominate your total exposure by accident. Record the percentage allocated to each asset, the reason you hold it and when you will review that decision. Rebalancing is a deliberate process of returning to your chosen allocation; it is not a guarantee that a portfolio will grow.
